Words of Hope
I grow heavy with understanding
I yearn for the ignorance of youth,
The freedom of an unspent life,
Of spontaneous joys;
Schooldays and the rain upon the shelter roof,
Where we held our secret group of girls,
Planning parties;
Pepsi Cola and ice cream.
The bonfire;
Potatoes, brown and crisp skinned.
Coloured bible slips
Words of hope.

The Dog
The dog is a friend
With a simple smile.
On him we can depend
To walk with us a mile.
His joy comes from simple things;
Like catching balls
And chasing things
And listening to his masters calls.
Today we love him
Tomorrow not
But the dog is loyal
And we love him a lot.

A Christmas Poem
What does Christmas mean to you?
Said the man to the two small boys.
Oh! Christmas, said the first child,
Is to bring us lots of toys.
--
The second child thought awhile and said,
The gift of toys, I love them too.
But most of all, 'The gift of Christ'
That God gave to me and you.

Hogmanay
Take up your glass and hold your neighbour's hand.
Open the door of your hearts
For tonight is Hogmanay.
Abandon vanity and greed
And sow the seed of joy
Amidst a world of sorrow
So that it may germinate
And grow into a fullness of beauty
Deserving of
A new day
A new year
A new world
