It Was A
Very Good Year (1953)
(With apologies to those I've missed)
Lots of the lads were called Colin
There was Buckley, Carter and Bell
The girls were Noreens and Doreens
Named Gutteridge, Turnbull or Snell.
Our class had more than Two Ronnies
I reckon there were at least four
Niven, Neesam, Arnott and Amos
Can you think if there were any more?
Do you remember Bob Ducker?
(Does it really have to rhyme?)
Lavinia was a good Looker
And so was Elsie Thyne.
Davy Porter, Ramshaw's daughter
Joan Yeoman, Frankie Bowman
Betty Robson, Barry Dobson
Peggy Green, Anderson, Jean.
Butcher, Baker, Johnny Taylor
Jonquil Cavalier.
Sheila Bell, Joan Andrewartha
all held very dear.
Jean West has stood the test
And so has Shiela Knox
They rank with the very best
As does Is'bel Goldilocks.
Mac Reid, Shippen and Waddle
Chambers, Gladys Dunwoody.
Jessie, Florrie and Tweddle
Jim Forster and his buddy.
I didn't mention Jean Stephenson
'Cos I couldn't find a rhyme
I would have wrote Joan Cuthbertson
But I just didn't have the time.
Goodbye to Lambert and Turner,
Webber, Cussie and Rodger(s).
They've all gone to the big burner
With dear Frank, the Artful Dodger.
Sorry if I've missed out you
It wasn't meant to be intentional
I just picked out a chosen few
As the rest were quite unmentionable.
Oh dear I've committed a crime
There's somebody I've forgot.
Although he was only there a short time
Can't leave out George D. Watt.
