Elizabeth Tindle (nee Baker) on teachers.

The teachers I enjoyed were Mr Bond (whom I hit on the back of the head one
time with a pellet fired from my ruler. The paper pellet was aimed at Elsie
Dodds in the front row but my aim was not so good). Mr Casey (when he was
describing the dividing up of Europe, I asked loudly, "Who got a piece of
Turkey?" I was promptly thrown out). I liked the men teachers
because you could fool around whereas, with the women, you didn't dare.
Another favourite teacher was Mr Johnson the Art master. I used to bring
rhubarb from the allotment and distribute it to everyone in class to munch

on when he wasn't looking.

Memories From Elizabeth Tindle (nee Baker) with the promise of more to follow.

I enjoy visiting the Hebburn Website as well as the brief interaction I had the
other day with the Jarrow Central Site.

I remember many of the names but I am unable to put a face to all of them. Of course I remember Joan Pickford and Shirley Ramshaw as we played on thenetball team for many years.

Jean McIntosh and I were "netball mad" and spent most of our spare time racingaround the schoolyard playing a game we called, "bundlies" which was a typeof rugby without any rules. You got the ball from your opponent in any manner possible. This meant, pulling plaits, knees in the back, and other more dubious methods! Not very lady like, I grant, but it really toughened us up.

I have been playing basketball ever since this time. Here in Australia, in 2002, we entered the first over 60s women's basketball team in the World Masters Games.
We are heading off to the World Masters in Canada next year. I coach teams every week and usually play as well. I know that this is unheard of in UK!
They would think we were crazy (now over 65).

My older sister Lydia Baker also attended the Central School. She was a couple of years ahead of me. You may have known her. Alex and Audrey went to Clegwell.

At the moment I can't get into the site but hope to catch up and contribute when able. I have a few photographs and a scanner but made a mess of scanning stuff the other day so will have to have another go later.
